Pair Sentenced At West Union To Be Deported
DES MOINES AP The Iowa state board of parole recommended suspending the sentences of twelve penitentiary inmates on the condition of deportation, following federal deportation orders from the United States immigration service. Gov Clyde Herring and Fort Madison warden Glenn Haynes had urged the action. The board rejected suspending seven others mainly because they were Mexicans or Canadians who might return to the United States. Two Mexicans, Luis Valle and Emanuel Lopez, were among those granted suspension. both had been sentenced Jan 31, 1929, at West Union to forty years for second degree murder, though neither was the actual slayer, the board noted, calling the terms too severe.
