Kennedy and Bush Win Narrowly in Pennsylvania Primaries

UPI reports Kennedy edged Carter in a tight Democratic race as 97 percent of districts counted 46 percent to 46 percent with 715 121 votes for Kennedy and 708 612 for Carter. Bush led Reagan 53 to 46 percent in the Republican vote with 587 428 to 500 694. no preference drew 6 percent.

Chase Manhattan cuts prime rate to 19 percent

Chase Manhattan Bank of New York trimmed its prime lending rate to 19 percent, the third cut in a week as money markets ease and loan demand weakens. Analysts foresee further reductions while six month Treasury bill yields and stock market gains reflect a improving, volatile economy. Chrysler, Ford, and GM announce large payroll cuts totaling about 33,900 jobs to save about $200 million annually.

Dave Koch found his house at 6536 Canbern Lane NE painted gray instead of green after Scriven Painting and Decorating mistakenly tackled the Thomas Cardy residence two blocks east. The crew fixed the color to Koch’s original bright green at no charge, with owner Lon Scriven calling it a rare mix up in 15 years of business.
