Butz Seethes Over Europe's Cold Shoulder In Paris Talks
Agriculture Secretary Earl L. Butz, a free trade advocate, reportedly seethed at the lack of enthusiasm for easing farm protectionisms at a Paris gathering of OECD and Common Market officials. He argued the United States must push multilateral tariff reductions to boost exports and reduce federal subsidies, noting U.S. farm exports hit a record $11.1 billion in the year ending June 30.

Farming Becomes Nation's Second-Deadliest Occupation
The Associated Press reports that if trends continue farming may overtake construction as the second deadliest job in the nation. In 1971 farm deaths per 100000 reached 66, versus 71 for construction and 100 for mining. Tractor accidents, large tractors, and low roll-bar usage contribute to the rising risk.
