George Miller age 60, longtime Norway resident and Cedar Rapids area father-in-law, shot himself at home with a .22 caliber rifle. Coroner John R Burrows ruled death by own action. body found by a neighbor who had gone for mail. Miller had retired from Quaker Oats after over 20 years. DES MOINES AP The conference committee on the biennial appropriations bill adjourned Thursday night without a final agreement. A Friday morning meeting was planned to continue a compromise between the house bill and the senate proposed $910,000 yearly increase. Committee members reported progress but left unanalyzed sections on University of Iowa and other board of education institution appropriations.
A sit down strike at Crucible Steel Company of America in Harrison N J ended Thursday night after company officials agreed to meet with union representatives on May 3 to negotiate.
