Jobless rate falls in Iowa amid shrinking labor force
Iowa's unemployment rate dropped to 3.1 percent in March from 3.8 percent a year earlier, while the civilian labor force declined by 9,300 over 12 months. Nonfarm employment rose by 8,100 positions year over year, with gains in financial, professional and business services, and education and health services. Manufacturing shed 3,600 jobs. information, leisure and government sectors declined. Beth Townsend of Iowa Workforce Development said the shrinking labor pool makes filling positions harder. The national rate fell to 4.5 percent in March.

Crystal Group plans 2018 expansion in Hiawatha
Hiawatha based Crystal Group will move to an 111,500 square foot facility at 855 Metzger Dr after a May start. The project, costing about 20.9 million, includes 165 current employees and 45 new jobs with 20 paying at least $24.70 hourly. The Iowa Economic Development Authority approved 613,750 in incentives, plus a 1.7 million tax rebate over five years. Groundbreaking is scheduled for Monday.
