USS Iowa Returns to Bay Area in Historic Homecoming
The USS Iowa, one of the four largest battleships, docked at Suisun Bay opposite Benicia for the first Bay Area visit in nearly 50 years. Veterans and former crew attended as the ship, linked to Franklin D. Roosevelt, received a hero’s welcome with Naval flyovers. The Iowa class boat may remain two years in the Bay Area before a museum or active status decision.
