Priest of celibate life joins North American Greek Orthodox parish
Rev. Ilarion Verakis, 27, after three years in a Greek monastery, was appointed to St. John's Greek Orthodox Church in London Ontario. Born in Winnipeg to a Greek father and Ukrainian mother, he chose full-time church service over marriage, joining Mount Athos monastic life before priestly duties in North America. He now runs Bible classes and catechism for about 100 families while awaiting possible return to a monastery.
