Carpenter Nomination Plot Tops Nebraska News

State Sen. Carpenter says if Nebraska sends him to the Republican convention he will try to nominate Gov. Rockefeller of New York for president unless Rockefeller tells him not to. He fears Vice President Nixon may go unopposed in Chicago and doubts Nixon can win in November. Rockefeller declined to comment.

Senator Stuart Symington opened a two day Iowa tour in Waterloo to boost his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination and pressed Republicans to offer a substantive farm bill rather than a phantom one.

Nine Men Elected To Jaycee Council For 1960 61

The Junior Chamber of Commerce announced nine new members for one year starting July 1 1960 with terms through June 30 1961. Names include Louis I Ginsberg Arthur W Hartley David L Johnson Richard B Rodder Dr Harry W Rosenberg and others. Incumbents were reelected for another year and two posts will be appointed for parliamentarian and state director. Council members meet Tuesday night to select officers.

A bankruptcy petition was filed Thursday in Cedar Rapids federal court by J. Donald and Doris M. Proksa of 923 Thirty-ninth St. SE. The couple, with Proksa described as a former filling station operator and current automobile mechanic, lists their occupation and details of the filing.

Bond Forfeited Mistakenly In Municipal Court

Lumir Pfeifer pleaded innocent in municipal court to disturbing the peace. Court officials inadvertently forfeited Pfeifer's $110 bond Thursday. To refund the bond, the city council must rescind the forfeiture. No trial date has been set.
