The United Rubber Workers canceled a threatened weekend walkout as wage guideline talks with the White House stalled. URW spokeswoman Janis Froelich said no strike would begin at midnight when contracts for about 55,000 workers expired and negotiations with Goodyear, Goodrich, Firestone, and Uniroyal would resume Monday in Akron, Ohio. UAW President Peter Bommarito had warned of a possible strike at Uniroyal if no three year contract was agreed by 12:01 a.m.
