Linn County sustains aging data system amid upgrades and flood
Linn County upgraded its Burroughs V340 mainframe in 1986 at a cost of 507445 dollars and 20 megabytes of memory. The system, aging yet functional, handles public records and tax data, with experts noting legacy software still widely used and no rush to replace unless needed. The county’s 2001 upgrade and its survival of the June 2008 flood illustrate the persistence of older technology in public systems.
