Marion initiates two step billing for new sewer rates
Marion plans a two step process for the new sewer fee schedule. Eastside customers will be billed this month for Feb 10 to Apr 10 at an interim rate. full rates begin in June. Westside bills follow next month. The plan, approved by the City Council, sets a 45 cent per 100 cubic feet user charge and a $1.40 monthly service charge. Elderly low income residents may qualify for a reduced rate after applying at City Hall. Thought for today: Thomas Wolfe notes most illness is in the mind.

Two Linn-Mar elementary schools Wilkins and Bowman Woods host career days Friday. Second graders at Wilkins and fourth graders at Bowman Woods learn under the All about Me theme with resource persons including a farrier, decorator, photographer and policeman. Tracy Elizabeth Warnke, Marion High School senior, will present a 3 p.m. recital at the Cedar Rapids Marion Academy of Music Recital Hall. Minor Marion Fire Contained at Linn County Home
Firefighters responded to a blaze in the psychiatric ward of the Linn County Home northeast of Marion. Fire Chief James Ford said a patient started the fire in a bed, with damage limited to bedding. Direct alarm and a smoke detector in the room prompted the response. Separately, seven permit takings were issued in the past week by the Building Department for local properties and remodels.
