First Lady Pat Nixon Charms Tobacco Belt Town

Robersonville North Carolina welcomed Mrs Nixon as she rode through gingham and overall crowds at the centennial. About 8000 residents lined Tobacco Road downtown while bands played and bunting decorated the street. The First Lady avoided politics, preferring goodwill for her husband’s campaign as she waved, spoke briefly, and posed for photos.

Risky for Ted to Run Now

Mrs. Joseph P. Kennedy voiced doubt about Edward M. Kennedys 1972 presidential bid saying it is too risky at present and that it would be wiser to wait. She noted he has obligations to Ethel Kennedy's children and his own, and that Teddy may intend not to run.

Perfectly Engineered Coed Contest Dropped at Colorado

On the University of Colorado campus in Boulder the engineering student body dropped their annual coed contest for a second year. Last year the pageant was halted by the women’s liberation movement for being sexist. This year no contestants appeared. only a pregnant woman, a gay liberation advocate, and a former male student body vice president with long hair showed interest.
