Adlai Stevenson’s Chicago law firm will merge with Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton and Garrison in New York. The combined firm will have offices in Chicago New York and Washington with Stevenson living in Libertyville directing the Chicago office. Current partners include W Willard Wirtz William Blair Jr and Newton Minow.
Washington AP reports State Department officials set April 29 for Newsman William Worthy to have a hearing on his passport application. Worthy, a Baltimore Afro-American staff member, was previously denied entry for travel to Communist China last year in defiance of a travel prohibition.
Vienna report states the Communist Hungarian government executed another October rebel on Friday night. The move follows a crackdown after the uprising and signals continued hard line against dissidents. The identity of the executed remains undisclosed according to official dispatches.
A 45 by 25 foot brick wall of the Stemlar garage collapsed into Fourth Avenue during demolition for a parking lot at Fourth Avenue and Second Street SE. No injuries occurred as beams buckled the wall, with Charles Conway warning area and guiding the dismantling. A crew of 14 cleared debris while the Conway Brothers Wrecking Co. aimed to finish the remaining walls by night.
Washington AP reports the Air Force ordered all national impact missile accident news to be cleared by its information office before release. Commanders receive instructions pending a directive revision on civilian impact. They are told not to describe the weapon by type or name in mishap reports.

In Poettsching Burgenland Austria villagers held a funeral for a shopkeeper missing since 1945 after identifying bones as his. A museum director later found the bones were from a 5000 B C graveyard, forcing the ceremony cancellation. The shopkeeper remains missing.

Ced A Fowler Colorado truck driver Raymond H Kinder pled guilty in municipal court after an accident Friday. Judge Loren Hullinger Jr fined Kinder 50 dollars plus costs or 14 days in jail for leaving the scene and resisting arrest after his truck struck a railroad crossing signal at First Avenue and Eighth Street NW. Officers arrested him downtown following the incident and said Kinder swung at them at the station.
Chicago AP report details the creation of desoxyribonucleic acid in a test tube by Drs. Kornberg Bessman Simmsland Lehman. The synthesized DNA matches natural DNA in bacteria and calf thymus tissue, formed from nucleotides with magnesium and enzyme, offering potential to block DNA production in cancer cells without harming normal cells.

A Linn County jury acquitted Arnold C. Olson, 33, of Cedar Rapids, of a second offense drunk driving charge after deliberating one hour. The jury found defense testimony raised doubt about Olson’s intoxication level at the February 3 arrest.
Veil D. Denison, 44, of Cedar Rapids, was sentenced to 90 days in Linn County Jail for drunk driving. He was arrested Friday afternoon by Marion police after they observed him driving erratically on Seventh Avenue in Marion. Denison pled guilty before District Court Judge Charles Penningroth.
John F. Schlumbohn, 50, of Oelwein drew a suspended three month sentence after pleading guilty to a false check. He allegedly cashed a false $20 check in Cedar Rapids on April 3. Donald Sickles, 17, of Manchester pled guilty to forgery and sentencing was delayed to April 25. He had been accused of cashing a $25.50 check in Central City with forged signature and endorsement and had pled not guilty before withdrawing that plea.
Everett and Elvira Hebell filed suit against Arthur L. Stark to void a sales contract for a tractor. They allege a promissory note and chattel mortgage were used and Stark retains possession. Plaintiffs seek $1,632.50 they say they paid.
Iowa Steel and Iron Works in Cedar Rapids ends its bid in district court to stop Teamsters Local 238 from picketing the plant after an injunction had been issued earlier in the week. The dispute centers on deliveries to an Iowa City nonunion construction company.

Peter D. Chiafos of 209 Twenty seventh Street NW Cedar Rapids died after months of illness in a local hospital. Born February 13 1900 in Greece, he was a member of Ahepa and owned the Fourth Avenue Lunch. Surviving are his wife Helen six sons James B Peter of Des Moines Robert Bill Paul and Michael and a daughter Mrs Norman Bowers all of Cedar Rapids.
