Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids hosts Middle Eastern Dinner
Volunteers prepared 1,200 meat pies for the annual Middle Eastern Dinner on May 1 at the Islamic Center in Cedar Rapids. The event aims to attract about 1,000 attendees with fare including fatayer, hummus, baklava and salads while raising funds for the center and promoting cross faith understanding.

The University of Iowa ran a record bowl deficit of about $228,445 beyond the $2.5 million Big Ten allotment for the Rose Bowl trip.
