Time Machine: Eastern Iowa’s Globe in Cedar Rapids Airport
A 1953 Cedar Rapids airport gift, an 18,000 dollar aluminum globe with 24 time zone clocks stood in the lobby for decades. Built by Dyna-Graphic Displays, it rotated to mirror Earth’s axis and drew visitors until 1978 when plans to relocate or display anew emerged.

Eastern Iowa Time Machine globe history and fate
The Time Machine project in Eastern Iowa drew interest from Jameson and officials, with a $50,000 display cost and debates over aesthetics. The globe moved from Kingston Supply Co in 1979 to Cedar Rapids Ground Transportation Center in 1983, endured the 2008 flood, was restored by FEMA, and placed in Linn Hall at Kirkwood Community College in 2013 as a historic artifact no longer updated.
