The Associated Press reports 28 states including Iowa are weighing expanded authority for nurse practitioners amid doctor shortages. A study shows median time to degree for entering graduate students from 1996 to 2000 exceeds eight years in some programs with many students taking up to nine years to complete degrees. The research highlights extended timeframes across fields and institutions.
