Former UI student sues over handling of sexual assault claim
Matthew Bailey a 29 year old University of Iowa law student filed a federal complaint alleging Title IX violations for failing to investigate reports and for creating a hostile environment. UI denies the charges and says it supported Bailey while pursuing an investigation after his 2015 assault report and a 2017 identification of the alleged perpetrator. Bailey also sues in Johnson County for libel and slander against the alleged assailant.

New detour on Cedar River Trail aids cyclists in Cedar Rapids
A temporary bike trail opens between 16th and 22nd avenues SW to route around a dirt berm from last September's Cedar River flood and utility work along A Street SW. The 13 mile Cedar River Trail connects downtown Cedar Rapids to Cedar Valley Nature Trail, Hoover Trail, and beyond. City officials expect the detour to remain until the Czech Village levee is built, with a $30,000 temporary setup and clear wayfinding signs installed.
