Cambridge MIT researchers reveal Inertial Guidance a free-floating gyroscope navigation core that operates without magnetic compass radio or radar promising to steer planes missiles ships or subs securely to a chosen earth location. The system already flew a B 29 Boston to Los Angeles and relies on three gyroscopes and a Schuler pendulum to maintain orientation independent of earth motion.

Five men drowned when a car plunged down a hill into Glasgow Missouri’s main street and off a 60 foot embankment into the Missouri River. One was rescued. Three of the victims were high school boys. Victims identified as Sonn Conrow Frank Estill John Stearns Jerry Horton and a youth named Hopper. Rescued was Buddy Kirby about 16. Glasgow lies about 100 miles east of Kansas City.
New York AP report states American Telephone and Telegraph stockholders rejected a 4-for-1 split by an overwhelming margin with 91.84 percent against and 76.25 percent of shares voted. The board said a split would not raise value without a dividend increase. A foundation sponsored the proposal.
AT and T reported one and a half million shareholders, more than twice the next largest private firm. Stockholders rejected two resolutions urged by management including a $25 000 pension cap for officers and televising annual meetings. Over 3 000 attended a four hour meeting where a one hour forty minute debate on the stock split occurred.
