Groundbreaking held for University of Iowa sports complex
A 37 million University of Iowa Athletics Recreation Facilities Complex and Roy Karro Athletics Hall of Fame broke ground at a 40 acre site near Mormon Trek and Melrose. Christine Grant said the project will boost hosting, recruitment and visibility with an Olympic pool, soccer field, indoor tennis, and fitness spaces. Roy Karro’s 3 million gift funded the effort, aiding a broader 15 million in total pledges. Soccer player Kate Walse noted the new stadium-like facility will elevate play and recruiting to Big Ten standards.

Anti-Abortion Mailing Trial Starts Monday in Bettendorf
Penny McDonnell and Kevin McDonnell face trial on harassment charges after sending anti-abortion materials to a neighbor. Penny wrote a personal note calling the baby “Baby Killer” and mailed the packet via Kevin, who was fired for using a city postage machine. If convicted, they could face up to 30 days in jail and $100 fines. The case raises questions about free speech versus harassment.
