Study finds no rural labor shortage despite wage concerns

The Economic Policy Institute reports rural economies face more harm from lack of good jobs than from skilled-worker gaps. Predictions Pin New Madrid Quakes To Longer Cycles

Studies presented at the Seismological Society meeting in Santa Fe suggest mega quakes above magnitude 8 on the New Madrid fault occur every 500 to 1,000 years, making a repeat of 1811-12 unlikely for 300 years, while stronger shakers under 6 may recur every 50 to 100 years. The work uses old surveys and 1990s GPS data to map stress buildup along the fault zone spanning Illinois Missouri and Arkansas.
