Marion park board trims budget and delays park plans
The Marion park board cut about $6,000 from its budget, roughly ten percent of the parks budget, at a Thursday meeting. Trustees postponed building a pavilion at Thomas park and road changes until fall, while authorizing Phase II development of Taube park and a federally funded cost share request. They approved two 36 inch fireplaces for American Legion park for youth groups, scheduled summer park uses with the Chamber of Commerce, denied Oct 1 2 car show use, and approved extra playground equipment near Thomas park with trees planted in city and Thomas parks.

Marion Independent-school district youngsters who thought they had a day of vacation Monday can forget it. They don't. School officials said the calendars sent to parents show April 19 as a day of no classes. Reason was the East Central district teachers convention of the Iowa State Education Assn. The convention has been canceled so school will be held on Monday. Set Recital-Students of Mrs. Hugh Churchill will be presented in a piano and organ recital Sunday at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's school.
