The Cedar Rapids Real Estate board release shows 159 vacancies among 16 518 housing units with 12 undesirable, marking the worst shortage on record. The survey notes scarce single family vacancies and rising demand for rents 25 to 35 dollars monthly, urging a vigorous construction program.
In Cedar Rapids at 331 Forest drive SE Mr and Mrs F C Waples installed a compact ivory elevator four years ago to aid ill or infirm relatives. The shaftless unit fits a sun room corner and uses a one quarter horsepower motor. The top forms part of the bedroom floor when down and a touch on a concealed switch stops movement for safety.

The firm also reported two further residential sales including a Rom site.

A pot addition is sold to Mrs Lulu Davis of Twenty third avenue SE and a house at 1151 Center Point Road NE is acquired by Earl A Coe of 833 Seventeenth Street.
Construction of a five bedroom red brick Colonial influenced home has begun on Cottage Grove avenue SE for Dr and Mrs Henry H Hamilton. The two acre site includes landscaped portions. Chester H Reesink is the contractor.
Two lots in Ridgewood on Blake boulevard at Nineteenth street SE and at Blake boulevard and Grande avenue SE were sold to Stanley Reid last week through Malcolm V. Bolton and company. The Grande Avenue Land company previously owned the property. Bolton's also handled leases for Elmer A. Higley Inc. at 222 Second street SE to B. and G. Hosiery Shops of Kansas City and for the Dows estate at 221 Third street SE to Chambers Inskeep Optical. The transactions were reported in The Gazette last Wednesday.
Mr and Mrs K J Breckert of 383 Seventeenth Street SE purchase 1954 Washington Avenue SE from Robert Skinner and take possession May 1. Realtor O P Myers also arranged the sale of 141 Seventeenth Street SW from the Home Owners Loan Corporation to Mr and Mrs Howard Dale of 722 Sixth Street SW.
