Joe Coufal and the Rise and Fall of Cou Falls
A Bohemian immigrant, Joe Coufal founded Cou Falls on the Iowa river between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. He donated land for stockyards and a grain elevator, urged a railway line, and died in 1905 as the interurban era began.
