Cedar Rapids real estate leaders report the 1939 housing survey shows the city with the worst shortage on record. Only 159 vacancies among 16 518 units, with 12 labeled undesirable, and vacancy rates well below normal across single and multi family homes. The board urges a vigorous construction program to meet demand.
In Cedar Rapids at 331 Forest Drive SE Mr and Mrs F C Waples have a four year old ivory elevator installed in a sun room corner. The compact unit fits without a shaft and uses a 1/4 HP motor with concealed cables and ivory columns. A hidden safe drop switch stops the car, protecting adults children and a family dog.

A pot addition was sold to Mrs Lulu Davis of Twenty third avenue SE and a house at 1151 Center Point Road NE was acquired by Earl A Henkle of 633 Seventeenth Street.
Construction of a five bedroom red brick Colonial influenced home has begun on Cottage Grove avenue SE for Dr and Mrs Henry H Hamilton at 2207 Ridgeway drive SE. The two acre site will include landscaped areas and Chester H Reesink is the contractor.
Two lots in Ridgewood on Blake boulevard near Nineteenth street SE and at Blake boulevard and Grande avenue SE sold to Stanley Reid last week through Malcolm V. Bolton and company. The Grande Avenue Land company previously owned the property. Bolton's also handled leases of the Elmer A. Higley Inc. property at 222 Second Street SE to the B and G Hosiery Shops of Kansas City and of the Dows estate property at 221 Third Street SE to the Chambers Inskeep Optical Company. The two transactions were reported in The Gazette last Wednesday.
Mr and Mrs K J Breckert of 383 Seventeenth Street SE purchased 1954 Washington Avenue SE from Robert Skinner and take possession May 1. The sale was handled by realtor O F P Myers who also brokered the sale of 141 Seventeenth Street SW to Mr and Mrs Howard Dale of 722 Sixth Street SW, formerly owned by the Home Owners Loan Corporation.
