Heart signals from the heart may regulate body fat

Temple University cardiologist Walter Koch has received a $1 million grant from the American Heart Association to study how the heart may control fat production via a GRK2 enzyme. In mice, inhibiting GRK2 led to weight gain on a high fat diet, while increasing it helped keep mice thin. Researchers aim to identify the heart’s signaling factor and test its presence in humans.
