Holder urges vigilance as tax deadline nears

The public must stay alert as the tax filing deadline approaches after identity thieves targeted taxpayers including Attorney General Holder. The IRS stopped 14.6 million suspicious returns from 2011 through November, safeguarding over 50 billion in fraudulent refunds and employing 3,000 staff to combat identity theft last year. Yafait Tadesse and Eyaso Abebe were sentenced or slated for sentencing for fraud using Holder’s name, with refunds sought via prepaid debit cards loaded at area stores.
