Commission panels report on Cedar Rapids ballpark needs
The Veterans Memorial Commission awaits an engineer study on the stadium before talks with the Kernels and city on maintenance. Chairman Peter Welch notes the team pays about 78 thousand dollars for upkeep while a 1.6 million improvement plan spans 10 years. He questions funding a new scoreboard and parking lot repairs, and calls for drainage and leak solutions plus a midsummer study completion.

Petition drive ends over incorrect wording in signatures
Kathy Potts halted her Cedar Rapids petition effort after discovering the signatures gathered were void due to improper wording. The drive sought 2 353 signatures to force a public referendum on 17 million in bonds for a 50 million event center, while the council required a Department of Commerce condition for a 35 million grant. Potts lamented the lack of public information on residents rights and reverse referendums.
