Corps builds sandbars for endangered birds on Missouri River
Dozers and dredges pump about 10,000 cubic yards of sand daily to create vegetation free nesting sandbars for the piping plover and least tern along the Missouri River between Yankton and Sioux City. The Corps expects to add 720,000 cubic yards this year at a cost of 5.6 million dollars, with access restricted mid April to mid August.
