Alexander Innocent of Wrongdoing Not Guilty of Criminal Abuse

Order Rescinded for Pre-trial Release of White

District Judge James H. Carter of Tama County District Court rescinded the pre trial release for Keith Dean White 18 of rural Tama. White pled guilty to throwing rocks through the window of highway state trooper Wayne G. Martin’s home and will remain jailed 21 days with restitution to Martin set at 626.19 dollars.

IRS lax cross checks let hidden income slip past

IRS Commissioner Donald Alexander acknowledged to a House subcommittee that the agency often does not cross-check wages and 1099 income with tax returns due to manpower limits. Investigators say under reporting from W-2s and 1099s costs the government revenue, with some fraud involving altered or forged forms. Alexander said the IRS will ramp up cross-checking in the current year.

Court Hears Six Cases In Linn Action

Linn district court heard six cases. Frederick J. McCloud received 90 days suspended jail time and probation for carrying a concealed weapon. Merilee Ann Rollins faced false pretenses tied to a 453.15 transaction at a Cedar Rapids furniture store. Kenneth W. Davidson had probation revoked from a 20 day sentence for receiving stolen property. Kenneth Ray Jones paid 500 dollars for a second drunk driving offense from an Aug 29 incident. Paula M. Everett received 60 days suspended jail time for injuring or terrorizing residents by firing a shotgun through a Cedar Rapids couple’s front window. Jerome C. Peterson replaced on Nov 25, sentenced to 60 days for uttering forged instrument.

Court Affirms Equal Time Rule Exemption

A federal appeals court ruled 2 to 1 that radio and TV broadcasters may air debates and news conferences by political candidates without offering opponents equal time. The ruling upholds the FCC exemption approved Sept. 25, despite Democratic National Committee challenges alleging incumbent access favors President Ford.

Hawkeye Tech Wins a Third Mehl Trophy

Hawkeye Institute of Technology of Waterloo captured the Gene Mehl Memorial Sweepstakes trophy for the third straight year at a junior collegiate livestock and dairy judging invitational in Normal Illinois. The dairy team won Jersey and Holstein judging while the livestock squad took second in swine and sheep and third in beef. Team members included Dwight Kolthoff Mark Henry Linda Peterson and John Holst Ken Weibbecke Ken Mast and Kevin Krumm. Coach: John Hagar and judge: Bob Kimm.
