Partly sunny conditions persist statewide with clouds moving in from the west tonight bringing showers. Highs remain mild as the forecast calls for isolated to scattered rain chances across the region.

Abduction of 12-year-old and mother stabbed in Ottumwa

In Wapello County, a 12-year-old girl Kathy Allen was abducted and her mother Janet Allen was stabbed during a Saturday robbery. Warrants issued for Andrew Wessell Six and Donald Eugene Petary on kidnapping robbery and attempted murder charges as authorities search southeastern Iowa. Kathy was last seen in blue blouse and bib overalls. Janet remained in serious but stable condition at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Live rockets found behind Haverhill supermarket

Ten camouflaged military rockets were discovered in two unopened crates behind the De Moulas supermarket in Haverhill Massachusetts. An employee found them while cleaning. Each crate held five rockets about four feet long and five inches in diameter. Investigators note possible air to air or ground to air missiles. Crates show a Texas address. the missiles were stored at Framingham state police barracks with FBI and military investigators joining Monday.

South Africa bans calls for release of detainees and protests

The government made it illegal to request or display support for political detainees, punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Anti apartheid figures plan defiance with a Cape Town service led by Desmond Tutu, who calls the ban "power gone utterly crazy."

West Union man dies in apartment fire

West Union 25 year old Steve Daniels died from smoke inhalation after an early morning apartment fire in a 110 year old building. Firefighters arrived after 6 45 a m and recovered his body from the third floor unit at Palmer Memorial Hospital officials said.
