Court Halts Parochial Aid in New York
A U S appeals court halted state aid to parochial and private schools pending a ruling on constitutional religion separation. New York had paid 14 million dollars this year under a 1970 act and planned another 14 million before June 15. Lawyers argued aid was reimbursement for state-ordered services versus a religious liberty violation.
