Cpl. Mary Elizabeth Burns a 21 year old Marine from Grand Junction Colorado faced a summary court martial on three charges for disobeying orders. Capt. J. W. Jones acted as judge with Lt. Ledbetter and civilian attorney Phil Hirschkopf representing Burns. She refused to wear the uniform and report for duty in an office forwarding radio messages to families of servicemen in Vietnam. The maximum penalty is 30 days confinement, loss of pay, and possible rank reduction. Burns seeks court martial to protest the Vietnam war and supports twin brother Timothy who opposes draft induction. She has been confined to quarters since March 19 after taking off her uniform.
