No Decision on Union's Request On Injunctions
Hearing concluded Friday before Judge G I Thompson on the Teamsters move to dissolve temporary injunctions against the union issued March 26 and 27. Decision will come within a week. The injunctions bar union members from interfering with Nash Finch Co and its customers. Attorneys Milo Mitralsky and David Preliant argued the injunctions should not have been issued without a hearing. AFL employee at Nash Finch plant went on strike March 25 and formed picket lines at the plant, grocery stores, and transport docks. The company labeled the strike illegal in an amendment, alleging James D White, union business agent, called the strike after the firm resisted bargaining to a National Labor Relations Board vote. The amendment notes the company proposed a strike vote before two employees were discharged, which White opposed. Don Hines and A H Sargent, counsel for the company, agreed with the union that peaceful picketing is protected by free speech but said the Teamsters did not confine themselves to peaceful picketing.
