Cedar Rapids Considers Prequalification for Contractors
Cedar Rapids officials discuss pre qualification for contractors on capital projects funded by a $46 million voter approved bond. The district says it will not require pre qualification while emphasizing rigorous specifications and bonded bidders to deter unreliable bids. City labor leaders see pre qualification as a neutral quality control tool aimed at reducing costs and improving building quality on projects including a $14 million stadium and a $1.3 million parking lot.
