Woodmont mall access plans labeled scary by city traffic engineer
Cedar Rapids traffic engineer Mel Meyer denounces a proposed Woodmont Companies mall entrance as scary and unsafe. He urges no access if possible, otherwise favors a right turn in right turn out on Edgewood Road or the Williams Boulevard Wilson Avenue option as the lesser evil amid rezoning debates and a Council vote due April 25.

Cedar Rapids Council to vote on water rate plan changes
The Cedar Rapids City Council is slated for the first of three readings on a seven step water rate plan that increases charges by about 10 percent for the typical customer and lowers summer sewer fees. Public hearings last week drew objections to the rises. Also on the agenda, a proposed $2 event parking fee at the First Street parkade seeks adoption, replacing the existing $1 rate. A separate public hearing May 2 will consider an ordinance restricting convenience stores to C-2 zones or higher, with protections for nearby residents and a potential HandiMart in a C-1 site at 6845 C Ave NE.
