Iowa House approves liability bill with seat belt factor
The Iowa House passed a comprehensive liability measure 82 to 12, adding a seat belt provision that allows courts to reduce damages by up to 5 percent if failure to wear a belt contributed to injuries. The bill tightens punitive damages, limits non economic losses, and includes self insurance options for cities and counties while exempting state inspections and certain product liability cases.
