Property Assessment Reviews Set for Cedar Rapids Board
Cedar Rapids property owners may file petitions with the city board of review starting Wednesday with a May deadline. Petitions must cite one of five grounds including inequity with similar properties, overvaluation, nonassessability, errors, or fraud. The board can adjust assessments and add omitted property. Accident Victim Chases, Stops Other Driver
James Leo Schutzman, 37, of 219% Fourteenth avenue SE, was charged with drunk driving and leaving the scene after his car struck Jerry L. Murphy, 27, in the 1800 block of Sixteenth avenue SW at 9:15 p.m. Schutzman allegedly continued driving until stopped. Murphy followed and alerted police. No injuries. Schutzman held on $500 bond.

Magistrate Hears Six Linn Cases
In Linn county court Dennis McKenna was bound over to the grand jury on a beverage tax charge. Walter Marlow’s trespass charge was dismissed. Jerome Smiley and Harold Davis pled guilty to trespass and received 60 day suspended sentences. Daniel Morris pled guilty to possession of a controlled substance and received 30 days with time served. James Henkel and Curtis Torrey were bound over on drunk driving and lewd acts with a child respectively. Doris Lamphere’s adultery charge was dismissed on witness request.

Woman Sentenced On Robbery Charge in Iowa City
Janet Rhodes was sentenced in Linn county district court to up to 25 years in the women’s reformatory at Rockwell City for armed robbery at a Kwik Trip store in Iowa City. The Jan 5 incident led to the conviction before Judge Ansel Chapman.
