Thieu’s German Visit Protested by Leftists
In Bonn a small group of leftists occupied the city hall during Thieu's visit, daubing walls with anti U S and South Vietnamese government slogans while hundreds of demonstrators clashed with riot police outside. Police used tear gas as they cleared the hall after a half hour. The day also featured peaceful anti-Thieu marches from West Berlin to Holland and planned further demonstrations. Thieu's London arrival drew mixed security and brief talks with Heath at Chequers. The reception in London included a crowd singing welcome songs and banners proclaiming Today is Theusday.
