Panel urges $1 billion yearly push for new energy sources
A Congress task force warns the nation must spend about $1 billion more annually to develop alternative fuels as existing sources fail to curb pollution. In the short term energy prices would rise, shortages persist, and air quality may dip unless a crash program funds coal gasification, liquid fuel, and other innovations.

McCord Lawyer Calls Testimony Hearsay in Watergate Case
Washington AP James McCord's attorney Bernard Fensterwald argues McCord had no direct knowledge of high level Nixon campaign officials knowing of plans to wiretap Democratic headquarters. He says most information came from G Gordon Liddy who has refused grand jury testimony. Fensterwald noted McCord testified about first hand facts but questioned if anyone above Liddy was involved. The lawyer said two more indictments may follow from McCord's grand jury testimony. Kenneth Wells Parkinson denied McCord's claim of pressure to stay silent and The New York Times reported McCord implicated Mrs Hunt's money to keep defendants quiet. The Washington Post cited McCord's claim of receiving money from Mrs Hunt before her death.
