Reynolds Seen As Arms Unit Chairman
Washington AP Senate military committee leadership appeared likely to pass to Robert Rice Reynolds a Democratic senator from North Carolina. The death of Len Morris Sheppard left Reynolds as the ranking majority member. Reynolds has opposed some New Deal foreign policy moves but supported domestic measures and the selective service law. Funeral plans for Sheppard include lying in state and a Texas service, with a gubernatorial call for a temporary successor and a special election within 60 to 90 days.
