Legislature updates Iowa gambling rules in Senate action
Iowa senators moved to simplify and unify social and charitable gambling rules, raising bingo prizes to 250 and allowing 15 bingo events per month while keeping cash and debit payments and banning credit cards. Amendments expanded amusement devices in taverns, and a separate measure revises penalties for gambling cheating with tiered Class D felonies by potential winnings. Deer and turkey harvest reporting penalties were set to $20 fines.

Upmeyer Signals Obstacles for Senate Anti-Bullying Bill
Iowa House leaders indicate a large portion of Republicans oppose the Senate anti-bullying measure in its current form. The bill would require parental notification and empower schools to address off campus incidents while offering training and a statewide task force. Governor Branstad seeks bipartisanship, but House fate depends on GOP support and potential Democrat backing.
