Cedar Rapids budget protest gets state hearing
Cedar Rapids three critics Lisa Kuzela Carol Martin and Mari Davis used a state law petition to trigger a State Appeal Board hearing on the city budget. The Feb hearing at City Hall included officials from the State Treasurer's Office the State Auditor and the Iowa Department of Management. The board will rule after reviewing recommendations from a panel chaired by Finance Director Casey Drew and with comments from both protestors and city supporters. The budget totals 513 million with a general fund of 116 million and a March 12 public hearing preceded unanimous council approval for a July 1 start.
