Linn-Mar approves 121.6 million budget with tax rate drop
Linn-Mar School Board certifies a 2013 14 budget of 121.6 million dollars reducing the tax rate to 17.34 per 1000, lowest since 2008 09, while assessed value rollbacks push taxes higher by 1.8 percent with a $916 bill on a 100 000 home. Marion Independent plans a 33 million budget with a 0 56 per 1000 rise to 17.62 and a projected 930 payment on a 100 000 home, up 64 dollars 7.5 percent.

Man receives 10 year sentence in Cedar Rapids stabbing case
Shaheed Pendleton 33 of Cedar Rapids was sentenced to 10 years after a Linn County jury found him guilty of willful injury causing serious injury and related assaults in the Oct 14 2011 stabbing of Racquel Truax 30. A five year no contact order and batterer education were ordered. restitution pending.
