Plans to restore Johnson County Poor Farm stalled
The Johnson County Board of Supervisors has not decided the future of the 150 acre Poor Farm site southwest of Highway 218 Melrose Avenue. Burma Shave signs and the man behind the signs
Iowa City native Bud Louis grew up behind the counter of his grandfather's Louis Rexall Drug Store where he heard town stories and kept Burma Shave rhymes alive as they faded from the roadside. The reminiscing piece recalls Burma Shave signs from the 1920s to later decades and notes the company was sold to Philip Morris.
