Des Moines reports say Special Assistant Attorney General Francis J. Preuss will leave May 1 after a brief tenure. Independence The trial of Robert Harold Wright 37 Quasqueton farmer for the murder of Lester Hoover 59 Winthrop farmer is scheduled for April 17 in Buchanan county court. Wright pleaded innocent by reason of self defense. Dorothy Hoover 57 was wounded when the couple and their two grandchildren sought help for wood cutting. Attorney is Robert Carson.
A KC 135 jet tanker landed at Lajes field in the Azores at 9 25 a m CST Tuesday after a 10 228 mile non refueled flight, a new world jet distance record. The 18 hour 47 minute elapsed time beat the old mark by nearly 4 000 miles but fell short of Madrid. winds failed to materialize for the longer leg. The crew reported a tired but triumphant nine men, with fuel stops not needed and a cruise climb to 44 500 feet over the Azores.
Indianapolis AP reports Milan lawyer Robert Peak was sentenced to one to three years in state prison and fined $1000 for false notarization in the Indiana highway scandal. He previously received two to fourteen years last fall for embezzlement conspiracy.
