Allis-Chalmers Striking Union Resume Talks

Negotiations at local and central levels resumed in Milwaukee as the 64 day strike by 14 000 United Auto Workers against Allis Chalmers continues. Local reps from seven plants joined the talks with labor and management at the West Allis plant. Nathan Feinsinger, a part time UW law professor, is mediating with federal mediators also present.

58 000 Drop in British Jobless

The Ministry of Labor announced unemployment fell 58 000 in Britain between February 9 and March 9, marking a decline in joblessness for the period.

Key Club Action Deferred and Exemption Voted

In Des Moines the Iowa House deferred action on a bill licensing key clubs after an amendment exempting country clubs from certain zoning rules was adopted 64 to 30. Debate ensued over controls, with Reppert defending the measure as a step to curb juvenile delinquency, while opponents argued provisions were weakened by amendments. Water Released For Flood Control At Coralville

John Story manager of the Coralville reservoir met with about 25 farmers from the Iowa river area near Hills. He said the reservoir is for flood control and water releases aim to lower the pool to absorb rain runoff in coming months. Recreation work is secondary and no planned changes to pool operations are known.

Collins Promotes Robert W. Landee to R D Director

Collins Radio Co western division at Burbank California named Robert W. Landee as director of research and development for airborne data communication. Landee formerly assistant director in airborne data communication brings broad experience in servos indicators radar transmitters receivers and missile and radar systems.
