Southwest side viaduct plan explained to about seventy

City hall hosted an open house on a proposed major upgrade to the 16th Avenue SW viaduct area. A second viaduct would be built north of the existing one with reinforcement and a new deck. Traffic would become one way on 16th Avenue eastbound and 15th Avenue westbound, reducing lanes and potentially restoring on street parking. Total cost is about 4.7 million with state funding largely unknown and federal share at 70 percent. The project could start in one to three years, with Sixth Street SW improvements possibly added after traffic patterns stabilize post construction. Sixteenth Avenue now carries Highway 30 traffic until the fall 1979 bypass changes patterns.
