Jury Rejects $583,950 Claim for Car Train Crash
Franklin W Sauer and his son James Christopher Sauer were denied $583,950 in an Iowa Linn district court verdict. A jury found the defendants Jerry Zimmerman Jerry Johnson operators of Jerry's Gulf Central City and Illinois Central Railroad Co not liable for injuries from a car train collision on April 19 1969 after four hours of deliberation following four weeks of evidence.

The Iowa City housing commission voted 4 to 2 against recommending adoption of a landlord tenant ordinance. They also rejected an amendment to acknowledge a need for a code other than the proposal. Breakins Probed At Tama and Toledo
Tama and Toledo police and Tama county sheriff investigate three Tama breakins two in Toledo and two attempted in Toledo Tuesday night. The Dental Clinic offices of Dr John Hess and Dr Norman McCreary were entered with a pipe wrench, $115 cash taken from Hess office and $1 from McCreary office. The Morris law firm building nearby was entered with only a few old coins missing. In Toledo the Farm Bureau office entry was gained via a back basement door with about $100 cash taken from the safe. Attempts to break into D and R Electric and the Farm and City Center failed.

Sigourney Man Injured in Rural Car Crash
William Hackett of rural Sigourney sustained chest and leg injuries in a two car collision near the What Cheer fair grounds in Keokuk County. Howard Raber of What Cheer received a hand injury as the other driver. Sheriff officials report Hackett was westbound and Raber eastbound at the crest of a hill around 12 15 pm Wednesday.

Two Nabbed at Burlington for Kidnaping Coed
A coed from Evergreen Park Illinois said she struggled out of ropes to escape two men who kidnapped her Monday in Macomb. Mari Anne Welrich twenty was found near Burlington Wednesday after freeing herself from a mobile home northwest of town and calling authorities. Randall A. Davis twenty three and August Foss Jr twenty one were arrested. federal kidnapping charges were filed. Bond set at ten thousand dollars or ten percent. Preliminary hearing scheduled for April thirteenth.
