MARAD and environmental groups reached a settlement to remove most of the ghost fleet at Suisun Bay. The USS Iowa and about a dozen ships remain in the bay while the worst polluters are sent to recycling yards by 2017. The plan targets over 50 vessels for eventual recycling, with the Iowa dating from 1940 to 1942 and serving in World War II and Korea.
