Shuttle safety woes threaten NASA budget and schedule
The commission cites costly safety failures that could trim NASA funding under Gramm Rudman. Shuttle brakes may fail on landings, Florida’s narrow runway plus weather makes landings risky, and launches could be delayed. Edwards AFB could become the primary landing site. Spare parts shortages and weak simulators compound the danger, with Feynman urging an independent safety panel.
